The Serotta Size Cycle is the most important tool we have in our shop.  The Size Cycle is a fully adjustable stationary bike which allows us to make any adjustment necessary to create a perfect fitting bicycle - a task that would be very time consuming (and often impossible) if done by removing and replacing ordinary bicycle parts.

The Interview

It starts the moment you walk in the door.  Our goal is to learn as much about you and your cycling goals as possible, so that we can offer the best advice possible

Shoe and Pedal Selection

We carry a number of brands and fits for cycling shoes, and will help you choose the best shoe for your foot and cycling needs.  There are shoes for road, mountain, and touring - each have their advantages and we can help you determine what is best for you.

The next step is to choose a pedal system that works with the shoes and suits your needs. Finally, we will take the time to set up the pedal cleats on your shoes - properly positioning them for the best comfort and performance.

Fit Optimization

Now to the Bike Fitting part. The result of this step is the creation of a rider's ideal cycling position.  This is done while you ride the Size Cycle.  The steps of this process are:

1. Final shoe, pedal and cleat adjustments
2. Saddle choice, adjustments, height and "fore/aft"
3. A lesson in pedaling dynamics
4. A lesson in cycling posture
5. Handlebar positioning, reach, drop and width
6. Documentation of these coordinates for future use 

Frame Selection

When purchasing a new bicycle, it is important to consider your ideal riding position in choosing a frame design and size. The geometry of the bicycle is influenced greatly by the rider's position and weight distribution. We will select or design a frame that fits properly, has good handling characteristics and allows for future adjustments.  Our goal is never put any adjustable point (like handlebar height) against its limits.  We will do our absolute best to allow for adjustment in every direction planning for changes down the road.

Implementation

This step transfers the ideal riding position developed on the Size Cycle to your bicycle. It is very important that nothing is "lost in the translation".  This is one of our true geniuses.  Designing the perfect fit on the size cycle means very little if you can not turn it into a bike.  We take measurements of every dimension from the Size Cycle and adjust the components of your bicycle until the fit is perfect! The final measurements are saved for future reference - such as a new bike purchase or component replacement.
