Advanced Bike Fitting

   Minimize

This is where we start with an experienced rider and a bike that fits pretty well, but is looking for added efficiency and that final tweak.  The same warm up and interview session takes place as in a new bike fitting, with slightly different questions.  The following are the addressed topics.

Your Connection to the Perfect Machine

Proper bike fit starts with the foot to shoe to pedal interface.  This is the connection of the imperfect body with the perfectly even and symmetrical bike.  The steps of our process are as follows:

  1. First we examine your feet to decided if anything should be done inside the shoe.  Custom insoles are one option.
  2. Selection of the right shoes that fit your feet the best.  We have many different brands to choose from, and knowledge to help you make your decision
  3. We will recommend one of a few different types of pedal systems based on your needs.
  4. Next the cleats are mounted to your shoes and aligned both in fore/aft position and rotationally.
  5. Lastly we evaluate the need for foot canting or width adjustment at the cleat or pedals.

Fit Optimization

The result of this step is the creation of a rider's ideal cycling position.  The decisions are based on a culmination of experience and training.  We may use a number of tools during this step including; photo analysis, video analysis and Computrainer SpinScan.

The steps of our fit optimization process are:

  1. A Lesson in Pedaling Dynamics
  2. Saddle Choice and Adjustments, height and fore aft
  3. A Lesson in Cycling Posture
  4. Handlebar Positioning, reach drop and width
  5. Documentation

You will receive a full spec sheet documentation of your new position along with changes from your old position.  You will also receive pictures of your position.  We save all of this info on our server so that we can work together in the future with ease.

Computrainer Testing

Just a few years ago, the only feedback we were able to get about the efficiency of a riding position was by riding with a customer. In difficult cases we did just that, but it was very subjective and time consuming. Now we have a device that simulates normal riding conditions and displays power output at every 15 degrees of pedal rotation. This allows us to make the final adjustments to a rider's position without all of the trial and error! In addition, we use the feedback to teach riders how to improve their pedaling technique. The Computrainer can be used for both Size Cycle and Current Bike Fittings.
